Our Second Shooter Stance

Written By: Elle Simpson

In the world of photography, the decision of hiring a second shooter is often up for debate. It is also one of the first questions I am asked from inquiring couples. I know a few photographers who feel that they work better alone and do not see much value in bringing a second shooter. I also know plenty of photographers who will not shoot a wedding day without one. Some couples think that having a second shooter will cost more, so they don’t want one. Some couples definitely want one because they think it will give them more photos and guarantee that their day is captured well. At Flat Ridge Photography, we measure every decision to ensure the best quality photos for you!

The wedding packages for Flat Ridge include the cost of the second shooter or assistant for your wedding day.

That said, the cost does not decrease if you choose to not have a second shooter. Our philosophy is to provide the lead photographer with strong support so they can fully focus on capturing your day, and trust that everything else is running smoothly.

Assistants and second shooters help keep the schedule, shot list, family portrait checklist, along with supporting the general workflow of the day. Their roles also include communicating with other vendors and wrangling the bridal party into place. The only difference is that a second shooter will also carry a camera and capture additional photographs for portions of the wedding day. We carefully consider the needs of each event, and the wishes of each couple, to choose between the two.

We want our lead photographers to focus solely on photographing each perfect moment of your day. Not having the support of an assistant or second shooter creates challenges that interfere with this mission. Flat Ridge Photography utilizes a variety of trusted staff best suited for your unique event.
